Charging Booking.com & Expedia virtual cards


If you are in the Travel industry, you can now charge Virtual Credit Cards from online travel agents, like Booking.com and Expedia, directly on your Yoco App.

  IMPORTANT: This product is currently in beta and has reached it maximum number of participant users. No new users are being accepted currently. 

Who is this product for?


This product is specifically designed for our merchants in the Travel industry - guesthouses, boutique hotels, or bed and breakfasts -  who accept bookings through online travel agents like Booking.com, Expedia, and others.  Note that we are currently not able to process cards issued by Agoda.

IMPORTANT: We cannot currently process cards issued by Agoda.

What are virtual cards?


Many online travel agents (OTAs) offer a direct payments option on their website. This means guests who book through the platform are able to pay a deposit or full amount as part of the booking, directly to the OTA. This is a great option, as it increases your booking conversion rate, and also reduces your cancellation rate. The OTA needs a way to give you the funds thereafter, and virtual cards are one of the methods they use to do this.
 
A virtual card is similar to a physical card, with a card number, expiry date, CVV, and transaction limit. It also has additional restrictions around when you can charge the card, depending on the booking policy. These restrictions make it a preferred and popular option for property owners and travel agents. 
 

How do I charge virtual cards? 


You will need to contact your online travel agent (OTA) to activate the virtual card feature on their side. Thereafter, you will be issued virtual credit card details for each booking made via the OTA. These details can be retrieved from your booking system login. 
 
You can charge the virtual card on your Yoco App. Tap Charge Virtual Cards from the menu. Then enter each virtual card number into the card details screen.
 

What are the fees?


We launched online card payments at a promotional rate until 1 October 2020. We did this to help our customers through the first few months of the COVID-19 lockdown. However, online payments cost on average 0.5% more than card machine payments, so we could not keep this promotional price forever.

All Yoco customers that already use online payments (ie those who have already completed an approved online transaction of R500 and above) will remain on the 2.95% discount until 1 February 2021. For new customers, online payment pricing will start at 3.40% (ex. VAT) from 1 October 2020 and will tier down in the same way that rates for in-person card payments do.

How do I get paid?


All payments are linked to your existing Yoco Account and money will be paid out within 48 hours as part of your usual payouts.

What cards are accepted?


We process virtual credit cards and lodge cards from all online travel agents. Please note, that this feature cannot be used to process your guest’s physical card information. We will still require 3D secure authentication for these, and we recommend you use our Payment link product if you’d like to charge your guest directly. 

How do I start charging Virtual Cards?


Log in to your Yoco App, tap Charge Virtual Cards from the menu.
