Can I use a fallback method for card transactions?

Yes, but only when prompted to do so by the Yoco card machine or Yoco app.

What is a fallback method?

A fallback method is when you do not use the primary way of authenticating the customer's card, for example, if a chip-enabled card is swiped, rather than being inserted into the card machine.

When does a fallback occur?

A fallback can occur if the chip on the card cannot be read, due to a technical issue with the chip or the Yoco card machine. This results in the technology “falling back” to the old magnetic stripe (swiping the card).
This situation is not expected to occur frequently and could be an indication of attempted fraud since the chips on the cards rarely fail.
